The Journées Internationales Francophones de Tribologie (JIFT) are organized each spring under the patronage of the Association Française de Mécanique (AFM), whose tribology is the subject of the Groupe Scientifique et Technique (GST) 12.
They are a strong gathering of the French-speaking tribological community from both the socio-economic and academic worlds, allowing us to take stock of ongoing work and progress in dealing with the phenomena of wear and friction, lubrication, as well as any related subject: surface treatments, functionalization, surface contact, characterization, instrumentation... Each year, a red thread theme is chosen.
The proposed privileged theme of this 31st edition of the JIFT will concern more particularly, tribology and energy with a focus on tribotronics or active tribology which represents a new application area of this so-called young science (new sensors, piezoelectric actuators, mechanically controlled electronics, motion/displacement detection, TENG tribo-electric nano-generator, triboelectricity, friction/electricity coupling, energy recovery, fuel cell,).
It will also be open, as traditionally, to more general presentations illustrating recent advances in all industrial fields. Under the aegis of the French Titanium Association, a thematic session will be opened on the tribology of titanium.
The year 2019 is also important because it is the 500th anniversary of Leonardo da Vinci's death, considered as the first recognized tribologist (Leonardo da Vinci's laws, universal friction coefficient,...) and who lived the last three years of his life at Le Clos Lucé. A special session will be dedicated to him as a tribute. This edition will cover 500 years of tribology: from the Renaissance to the present day.
The 2019 JIFT will take place at MAME, Cité de la Création et de l'Innovation, in Tours from 24th to 26th April 2019.
